Variable data printing allows elements within a piece (text, graphics, or images) to be changed from one piece to the next. A run of letters, for example, can be produced with personalized name and address as well as individual data and even a photo for each addressee. A direct mail piece can now be individually targeted to the recipient containing only the information that is of interest to that recipient.
